Dear Connectional Members and Friends,

Bishop Ronald M. Cunningham, the 53rd Bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, was elected president of Churches Uniting In Christ (CUIC) at their meeting held January 18-20, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Although he was retired at the 2010 General Conference, he continues to serve the church in the capacity of the Ecumenical Bishop.

Churches Uniting in Christ is a relationship among ten Christian communions that have pledged to live more closely together in expressing their unity in Christ and to combat racism together. CUIC is both an outgrowth of and successor to the Consultation on Church Union (COCU), an organization that worked for more than 40 years toward the day when Christians can become more fully reconciled to each other.

CUIC is comprised of the following denominational members:

African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME)
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME)
Episcopal Church
International Council of Community Churches
Moravian Church Northern Province
Presbyterian (USA)
United Church of Christ
United Methodist Church
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (Partners in Mission and Dialogue)

To learn more about Churches Uniting in Christ, please visit the CUIC website at: www.cuicinfo.org.

Congratulations to Bishop Cunningham!

Yours for "An Essential Church: Poised for 21st Century Ministry"
